On December 18, 2024, Inspire Action Africa (IAA) hosted a transformative event titled “Together for Change: Let’s End GBV and Femicide” at Senses Hub in Nairobi. Supported by the Institute of Public Finance (IPF) and moderated by renowned media personality Jimmy Gathu, the gathering united youth, government representatives, experts, persons with disabilities, and stakeholders. Together, they engaged in a powerful dialogue to address the pressing crisis of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and femicide. The event was also accessible virtually, reaching participants from across Kenya and beyond.
The event served as a rallying call for collective action against femicide. Featuring discussions on the root causes of femicide, the impact of technology in facilitating GBV and Femicide, and psychological drivers of GBV and Femicide, the program offered actionable insights and resources to foster safety, prevention, and survivor support.
With over 500 women victims of femicide reported in Kenya between 2017 and 2024,152 cases recorded in 2023 alone and 172 reported between January to November 2024 the urgency to act is undeniable. The event empowered attendees with knowledge and
strategies to challenge societal norms and cultural factors contributing to these tragic statistics.
Ending GBV and femicide starts with each of us. By combining individual and collective efforts, we can dismantle the systems that enable violence and build a society where everyone lives free from fear.
